September 16th-20th

Happy Tuesday! I am so excited to be back in the classroom with the kids this week!!

Today we will be in full swing working on our Veterans Day essays. A few questions have come up regarding the Veterans Day posters.  They may have to work on these at home if we are running out of time at school. I will provide the poster board, but they may also use one of their own if they choose to use a foam board etc. I always encourage them to use printed letters, or cut out words vs. using handwriting. It just looks much cleaner and polished when they do that. As a reminder, and as hard as it is, please only offer suggestions if they work on this at home, and let it be entirely their own work!

One other thing I wanted to touch on was how well the kids have been doing on their weekly assessments! This week we will be taking our 3rd Journeys assessment, and 3rd spelling test and ALL the kids are doing a fantastic job on them! The Journeys test are weekly assessments, and are assessing not so much over the story, but over the skills I have taught throughout the week, and they are not easy! This is a GREAT group of kids and they have jumped right in with both feet and really done a great job of paying attention and learning the skills taught throughout the week. They continue to impress me!

Last but not least! I am really hoping that your student has mentioned that their first 20 day quiz over the word of the day will be next Tuesday the 24th! All the quizzes will always be matching and they will never have to write down any definitions. I will have them all take home their words this weekend to study. The best way to help them study is to read the definition to them, and have them tell you the word. They will never be able to spew out all those definitions, nor do I expect them to! I keep telling the students that this first 20 is really important, because if they do not have those down pat, the next 20 will be even worse and so on!  As a reminder all of these words are on this site under the resources tab, along with all of the years spelling lists!

This week we will also be taking our reading and math MAPS. I think that is about all for this week. Being gone last week, I was not able to get many pictures! :(

Have a great week!
