November 10th-13th

Hello!! Sorry I am getting this out late. First things first.... I want to congratulate our Veterans Day essay finalists!! Megan Barnhart took 3rd place on her essay, and Rose Kimberlin took 1st place on her essay! I am so very proud of these girls, and all the kids for working so hard on these!

READERS CAFE NIGHT:

I have some disappointing news regarding our Unsung Hero writing pieces that we are working on. Due to Covid, we will be unable to have our traditional evening Cafe' "open mic night" :( This really saddens me, as it is one of my very favorite things to do with the kids. This will also mean we will not be able to have a gallery walk of our art piece over our unsung hero either. Instead the kids will be doing this with me during class, and I will record it, and send it out to parents and guests of honor.

THANKSGIVING FEAST:

Something that I always do every year since my second year of teaching is hold a Thanksgiving Feast for my students! I love celebrating the holidays with the kids, and want to make it as special and memorable as I can for them! So, I like to host a feast for both 5th & 6th graders! Although this will look TOTALLY different this year, I am bound and determined to find a way to make this happen!!! We will do this on our last day before break, Tuesday November 24th. It will be for students only, and we will eat in our classrooms. I will provide all the turkey and Mrs. Whitcomb will provide the ham.  Instead of asking the 5th/6th graders to bring in one side dish (Covid rules) I thought it would be fun to have the kids make their own personal batch of homemade noodles!! I might be crazy, but I think this could be SO MUCH FUN!! We would follow all the sanitation procedures to make this "Covid-safe." Each student will only eat what they make themselves, with the exception of the turkey, ham, potatoes and gravy Mrs. Whitcomb and I make and bring in. We will do this and each kid will get their own individual mini pre-packaged pie to eat! I am so excited about this, and will have to try some trial runs on it first! Mr. Clark has given approval of this, and I think it will be a great memory for the kids!

SOCIAL STUDIES PROJECT:

A BIG thank you to those of you that have already sent me Christmas tradition photos for our Social Studies project! Those who have their photos will begin their projects tomorrow!! As a reminder, if you could send me digital photos (20-25) of your student with family or any Christmas traditions they have ASAP I would really, really appreciate it! It is such an amazing project that I cannot wait to share with you when we finish! We will need all of these by Friday at the latest!!

I think that is all for this week! Thank you so much for taking the time to read all of this, and for being so involved in your child's education!! Apparently I forgot to take pics last week! lol Sorry about that.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Coffman
