February 1st-5th

Lot's to share this week, so I will keep it as brief as I can! First on the docket is Valentines Day boxes! Every year we have a Valentines Day box competition in 5th grade! The kids have always LOVED doing this!! However, they do NOT have to participate! It is strictly for fun!! If they would like to just decorate a sack, I can provide one for them. This is something I have the kids do at home only! Again, not for a grade, and they do not have to partake in this, but if they want to it is a lot of fun! They may make their Valentines Day box however they want! I always tell the kids to Google some ideas, or get on Pinterest to look. We do a ballot style voting where each kid will submit a ballot on their favorite box, and they are not allowed to vote for themselves. The winner will get a prize from me on Valentines Day! Hard to believe that is next week already! What I love about this project is it allows the kids to be creative and use things from around the house to make a fun box to collect their Valentines in! Below are just a few cute, simple designs I found!

I am sorry in advance if this causes a headache for you! The kids really, really do love making them and are so proud to show them off at school! I do tell them that they are not allowed to bring them in until Valentines Day! We are really tight on space in the classroom, and will not need them until Valentines Day! I will be talking to the kids about this "at home" project today. This will give them plenty of time to plan and execute, if they decide to make one!

Our 100th day is on FRIDAY!!!! I am still in need of a couple Scrabble game boards. If you have one we could use that day that would be great!

Next week is P/T conferences already, and Valentines Day! Our party will be on Thursday Feb. 11th. I have Becky Ballinger down for snacks, Katherine Stueve down for drinks, and Jaree Martinez down for goodie bags. Like Halloween, the classroom parties will look different this year. :( We will have our treats, and either play some games or watch a movie, whatever the kids want to do!

I am looking forward to meeting with you all for conferences. Please check with Karen in the office if you forgot your conference time so we are sure to meet! I have so many wonderful things to share that we have done this past quarter!

Have a wonderful week!
