September 14th-18th

Hello, and happy Monday!!  The weeks are coming and going quickly already. There is not a lot to share this week...On Friday we did a lesson to honor 9-11. My intern from Emporia State had been planning on doing a lesson, but had the stomach bug and was not able to make it in. Instead we did a quick lesson sequencing the events of that day, and made some ribbons to wear home. My intern will be teaching her planned lesson over 9-11 tomorrow.  It is still hard for me to realize at times that these kids were not yet born when this happened.  The kids always seem to amaze me with their empathy for others, and insightful discussions.

Last week we worked on the skill of theme. They did a great job with this, and really enjoyed identifying theme by analyzing different Disney movie synopsis through a competitive tic-tac-toe game!

This week my intern will be starting her 3 week teaching project in Social Studies over Native Americans. She will begin with a pre-assessment, teach her unit and then post test the kids over the skills she covered.

Lastly, I wanted to mention that you may not see as many pass backs coming home everyday. That is because 95% of the work we do in class is done on Google Classroom. As a reminder, they are allowed to correct assignments on Google Classroom and resubmit for a better grade. Some are already taking advantage of this!

This group is amazing!! Thank you for sharing your special kids with me everyday!!

Have a great week!
