Happy Monday! Today we took our pretest for this weeks spelling words, and started a new week in Journeys. I will be showing the students how to get on Infinite Campus to check their own grades, as I want them to be proactive about their grades, and checking them regularly so they can stay on top of their progress in my class, and Mrs.Whitcomb's class.

We also started a new writing piece today as well. One big change from 4th to 5th grade is the amount of writing we do! We take a piece all the way through the writing process every week. This includes a pre-write, rough draft, revise/edit and final copy. They are doing a nice job with this too!! This week we will be writing a fictional narrative, with a twist---which will be starting with an ending scene, and adding flashbacks and dialogue. I am sure proud of how far they have already come and the routine I see them getting into. Lots and lots of good writing practices taking place and I LOVE it!

Wednesday the kids will take their first 20th day quiz over their first 20 word of the day words. I have given them all 20 words, and we have also practiced some in class too. I have modeled for them how to study for this, and reminded them to take their words home. I also reminded them that all 100 words are on this website, if they should ever forget theirs at school! This will be a matching quiz only, they will not have to write out any definitions.

On Friday we got to attend our first pep assembly of the year.......virtually! lol It was different, but still good to be able to be a part of it in a small way. You would be surprised how much these kids enjoy being involved in what the high schoolers are doing!
