It's Halloween week!!!! Halloween is one of my favorite teaching days of the year!! Crazy I know, but I love the energy the kids bring that day, and seeing them all dressed up in their costumes!! :) I do however hate that things have to look so different this year, and that parent's are not allowed in for our typical classroom parties. We will still parade around the school at 2:00 and into the high school in our costumes. For that I am very thankful!

Red Ribbon week runs up until Halloween day. We are doing a few fun activities this week to celebrate. Hopefully the flyer for spirit week made it home, but tomorrow is hat day, Wednesday is wear red day, and Thursday we will change into our costumes.
This week will also look a little different for our Language Arts block. On Thursday (Halloween celebration day) I will send the morning doing a really, really fun mystery readers theatre. Each kid will get a part and we will try and decide who has "committed the crime". This is always a student favorite, and is super fun for them!! It kind of resembles the game of Clue. With the combination of that and no school Friday, I will not be able to deliver a normal week of instruction with our Journeys curriculum. So, I will be doing some fun Language Arts skill based Halloween activities each day. Today we read about the history of Dia de los Muerotos--(Day of the Dead) and did some comprehension strategies and writing, as well as made some cool sugar skull art! The kids had a blast! Do to this change we will not have a spelling or Journeys test this week! Just a heads up on that!
Veterans Day Essays are SUBMITTED!!!!!! I think the kids would agree with me when I say that feels AMAZING!! We worked so hard on those, and I am excited to hear how they did!!

I am looking forward to meeting with you at conferences! If you have not yet returned your conference form you can call Karen in the office to confirm your time.

I am excited for our Halloween party and celebrating with all the kids. They are so much fun to have in class everyday! We will be having our pizza party Thursday afternoon, but the kids will still eat a school lunch. That is what they voted to do! They also voted to watch a movie instead of play Halloween games. Their thinking was comical.."A movie will last longer than a few games." (smart kids!) They also voted to watch Coroline. This movie is rated PG, along with EVERY.SINGE.KIDS.MOVIE it seems like!! I will be sending home a permission slip for you to sign, giving your permission for me to show PG movies this year. We will watch a few more this year for novel units I teach, and holiday movies that will also be rated PG. I will just keep those signature sheets. If you have any concerns with this please let me know! I of course would never show anything inappropriate! :) Below are a few pictures from last week and today.
Have a great week!
